“Sight of local food, arts and books. Gave us a chance to taste local food, buy local hand made products – including jewellery, soap, honey and even brought books. Relaxed and entertaining walk”

The People’s Park comes alive every Sunday as market vendors bring their colourful collection of food and crafts to this most beautiful park, located on the coast. This market boasts a very cultural dimension, with Japanese, Croation, Lebanese, Italian, French, Chinese, Indian, Greek, Pakistani, Polish, Palestinian and Czech produce available, as well as an impressive selection of Irish crafts, books, paintings and foods.

It’s easily accessible by car and less than a five minute walk from the DART. The People’s park also has a children’s playground and a coffee shop.

The People’s Park

Dún Laoghaire’s magnificent People’s Park is a beautifully landscaped oasis of calm a short stroll from Dún Laoghaire harbour. The park is popular with people of all ages and locals and visitors alike. Green, lush and well maintained gardens, a quaint tearoom, lovely fountains and a fun children’s’ playground make it a pleasant place to while away a sunny afternoon with the family.

The park’s playground provides a fun and safe place for kids to play and the elegant tearoom offers a quiet place to enjoy some relaxation and refreshments. Throughout the year the park is also a popular venue for live music acts and festivals.

The park was developed near the end of the 19th century by the town commissioners in the formal Victorian style, including wrought iron railings, stone walls, large gates and a covered bandstand typical of the Victorian era.

The main facilities of Dún Laoghaire’s People’s Park include:

  • The Park lodge – an attractive Victorian gate lodge which was formerly a gardener’s residence. This building is now used as offices.
  • The Victorian shelter – now the park’s splendid tearoom.
  • Two cast iron fountains – an impressive feature of the park.
  • The Victorian bandstand – fitted with original gaslight standards
  • A garden for the blind with a safe walking trail
  • A children’s playground
  • Public toilets

The People’s Park is located very close to Dún Laoghaire town centre, between Glasthule and the seafront. The main park entrances are off George’s street and Queen’s road. There’s plenty of parking nearby and the park is accessible by train and local DART services.
