ArtNetdlr is submitting a proposal to Dun Laoghaire – Rathdown county council for use of the Carnegie Library Building on George’s Street as Creative Hub/Arts Centre, focussing on the coalescence of artistic excellence and social impact, offering an accessible public space that will enrich Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown.

Our Speakers:

DAVID McWILLIAMS is an economist, author, journalist, documentary-maker and broadcaster, Adjunct Professor of Global Economics at the School of Business Trinity College Dublin, and ranked 10th most influential economist in the world.

ROISIN HOGAN from ArtNetdlr will outline our objectives in a short presentation followed by a Fun 20X20 Raffle.

20X20

Over 40 writers, artists, musicians, broadcasters (and even a fishmonger) have created something on a 20cmx20cm canvas in support of ArtNetdlr Carnegie Proposal. Participants include PAT KENNY, DONALD TESKEY, CHARLIE TYRELL, GWEN O’DOWD, JULIE PARSONS, KATE MACDONAGH, JUDY CAROLL DEELY, MARY O’CONNOR, PATRICK MOLLOY, LOUISE NEILAND, GAVIN FRIDAY, ANNE ENRIGHT, HUGH HAMILTON, MARY LOHAN, KEVIN GODLEY, BARRY DEVLIN, PETER CAVISTON, CYRIL BYRNE, GARY COYLE, CARMEL BENSON, PATRICK GRAHAM and so many others.

You can own one of these canvases and also support ArtNetdlr initiative. All you have to do is purchase a ticket for €50 and you are guaranteed to get one, but you won’t know which one just yet… it’s pot luck. Tickets can be bought at Cali Kitchen.

The 20×20 canvases will be on display in CALI KITCHEN (in the grounds of the Royal Marine Hotel) Monday 10th – Friday 14th February. Open 10am – 4pm.

All will be revealed on 19th February in the National Maritime Museum of Ireland and the draw for each piece will take place during the evening, you might enjoy trying to match the canvases with the names on the list over a glass of wine.

Would you like to create your own wearable technology and have some fun with electricity and conductive tape? Then try some electronic tailoring and an introduction to soldering!

Learn the basics of circuitry and find out how to design a unique wristband or bracelet. You will leave with a hand-crafted prototype that incorporates LEDs and switch based on your design. Please bring a light snack
and drink for a short on-site break.

In this intensive full-day course, participants will be introduced to the fascinating art and craft of Japanese Woodblock Printing. Participants will learn about the culture of Japanese prints and the method of woodblock printing prominent in Japan for centuries and surviving today through a celebrated group of international scholars and practitioners, including Kate MacDonagh.

Since her time spent on artist residencies in Japan (2015, 2017) Kate has focused mainly on water-based, Japanese woodblock printing (Mokuhanga) and water colour painting.

The painterly qualities and diverse possibilities of Mokuhanga greatly appeals to her as a way of working in an environmentally way.

The sensuous, meditative dialogue with the materials is an essential element of both the process and the outcome.

The number of participants is limited to only 7 in order to enable detailed, individual feedback to each participant and the artwork they create. All materials included, please bring drawings and images as source of inspiration.

As an artist, you will be required to write about your work for a variety of reasons including press releases, proposals and applications. Focusing on the artist statement, this session will equip participants with a text to work from, develop and adapt in the future.

Over the course of the day, we will work interactively to produce texts that address the concepts, approaches and methodologies particular to your work. In addition to concise, accessible language, we will also consider writing as a dynamic and reflective tool, exploring the more expansive, generative ways in which writing can meld with an arts practice, operating within or alongside it.

In discussing how participants might develop a long term relationship with writing that will serve their practice and its shifting demands as it develops over time, we will also cover various opportunities regarding the production of text in relation to an artwork or exhibition.

Sue Rainsford is a recipient of an Arts Council Literature Bursary Award, the VAI/DCC Art Writing Award and a MacDowell Colony Fellowship. Her debut novel, Follow Me To Ground, received the Kate O’Brien Award. She is Writer-in-Residence at Maynooth University.
