Dún Laoghaire Musical Society Win at North Wales Choral Festival

The chorus from Dún Laoghaire Musical Society (DMDS) won the ‘Just for Fun’ (under 40 members) choir competition at the North Wales International Choral Festival in Llandudno last weekend. This is a major international competition with over 70 choirs competing in different categories. This was the third win in a row for DMDS in this competition. The chorus of 34 conducted by Des Cox, performed three  songs: Banks of Loch Lomond. Bright Morning Star and Wade in the Water.

The members of DMDS are currently rehearsing for Jekyll & Hyde. The musical, which will run in the Pavilion Theatre from 12th to 16th March 2019, is based on the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson. The epic struggle between good and evil comes to light in this

DMDS is a 70-strong musical society with a tradition of musical performances since 1959. They produce musicals and concerts, and compete in choral competitions. It was founded in 1959 by the Methodist Church, but in 2003 was reconstituted as a community group. In addition to their wins in the North Wales Competition, they have won the Frank Cullinane Trophy for the best musical society choir in Ireland at the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) Choral Competition in New Ross for two out of the last three years.
