O’Connor Jewellers

If you can thing of one way to make your mom feel beautiful, important, and happy, it’s by giving her jewellery. Dun Laoghaire is proud to have long standing family businesses among jewellers and one of them is O’Connor Jewellers shop. We were delighted to speak to Niamh O’Connor who shared a bit of their family and business history.

The shop is Dun Laoghaire was opened in 1949 by Niamh’s grandfather. Her parents are the owners now and when the time comes she hopes to take on the business. This is great responsibility but also a motivation, because the jewellery business has such a long tradition in their family. It’s always a great pleasure to serve people of Dun Laoghaire, to look after them and be a part of special moments in their lives says Niamh. O’Connor’s are proud to have 3rd of 4th generations of people coming into their shop from the same family for jewellery. Ear-piercing is a  big part of their business so there are many anecdotes shared by customers as they had an opportunity to be served by Niamh’s grandfather.

Trust in their business is another big consideration for people that choose O’Connor Jewellers. People are bringing in their prized jewellery, like diamond rings, for repair and they can be confident to get the product back in an excellent condition.

Regarding the prices, there’s something for everyone. Their range start from €20 or €25 right up to €7,000 – €8,000, so there is something for everyone’s price range.

Niamh would recommend a lovely range of pendants that could be personalised. A nice little disk where the staff can engrave mom’s initials on it, or a little star or heart. All charms come under €60 mark. They also could be personalised depending on the person who is buying a gift – kids, husband, etc.

O’Connor jewellery also has a nice selection of watches, bracelets, and earrings.

How to Buy From O’Connor Jewellers

Niamh recommend stopping by the shop on the George’s Street to buy jewellery. People usually like to see, feel, and try it on before committing to buy jewellery. You can also call the shop at (01) 280 5880 or find them on Facebook

Pavilion Theatre

If you mom enjoys a good show then the Pavilion theatre in Dun Laoghaire won’t leave her disappointed. We spoke to their marketing and communication manager Dónal to find out more about theatre and what their program looks like for the spring 2022.

The Pavilion Theatre has been a part of Dun Laoghaire history for more than a century, with first shows back in 1903. The theatre we know today was built in 2000 and since its beginning it established itself as a centre for cultural and entertainment events with thousands of visitors each year. It has a capacity for 324 seats and it has a diverse program to entertain audience from Ireland and all over the world. Dónal himself has worked with the theatre for more than 5 years. With his background in psychology, HR, and art he found himself very much at home in the world of arts.

The Pavilion Theatre provides a high-standard multicultural events in all forms to the people of Dun Laoghaire and that’s one of the main reasons why it stayed for so long. On any given week you’d be able to see movies, plays, concerts, famous stand-up comedians, dance shows, and shows for families and children.

For a long time in the past the Pavilion Theatre was cinema, but now it is multi-purpose arts venue. Each program is carefully made, with renowned Irish and international performers, they never take anything for granted, and the venue is packed with events. They also like to take risks sometimes and present unusual performances which is something that makes them stand out from other theatres. Audiences in Dan Laoghaire are open to new experiences and taking chances, so those experiments usually pay off.

Something special for Mother’s Day from Pavilion Theatre

Pavilion theatre has great a great event for this Mother’s Day. On Mother’s day itself they are hosting a fantastic duo – Irish singer-songwriter Kieran Goss and singer Annie Kinsella that will celebrate the release of their debut album as a duo, “Oh, the Starlings”. The music is in the folk genre and it’s a great choice for people who are fans of Christy Moore or Mary Black. With songs, stories and harmonies that transport the listener to another world, this is music from the heart, for the heart. The show starts at 5 pm and it’s a perfect event to bring your mom to.

How to Buy From Pavilion Theatre

You can book the event online on the Pavilion’s website. You can also come to the venue on the Marine road to buy tickets and collect printed programs. They are proud of their Spring 2022 brochures which you can take home and highlight the shows you’d like to watch. You can also call the theatre at (01) 231 2929.
